Fire at University building, David Chiddick

Evacuated: Students missed thirty minutes of lectures during the blaze

The David Chiddick building had to be evacuated on Tuesday, after a fire caused students to evacuate across the road to Tower Bar.

The building, which is located on the Brayford Pool, was evacuated just before 2pm.

The fire took place on the ground floor and fire services said it was contained within 30 minutes.

A large grey door barred the Café entrance for a few hours afterwards.

Declan Hill, a student at the University of Lincoln, said: "I was walking to my seminar at 2pm and then I got a message from a course mate, saying that the DCB had been evacuated."

When he arrived at the building he said: "It smelt like burning plastic, the fire marshals had their hi-vis jackets on which they only use if it's a major situation."

Students were asked to return to their designated rooms for the remainder of their classes.

Mr. Hill said "I felt nervous going back in because they didn't really explain anything to us."
